Lorain County Public Health to serve, support a healthy community at the Lorain County Fair

Lorain County Public Health (LCPH) continues to protect public health at the 2024 Lorain County Fair, according to a news release.

To prevent the spread of disease, the health department is providing hand-washing awareness signs and providing hand sanitizer throughout the fairgrounds, the release said.

Lorain County Public Health also conducts food safety inspections and training with food suppliers to protect people from foodborne illness, according to the release.

Health department staff will be at the Lorain County Fair, Aug. 18-25, to answer public health questions and to promote local services, the release states.

People are encouraged to visit Lorain County Public Health’s tent behind Building 17 at the County Fair, which will showcase Lorain County’s Comprehensive Safety Action Plan to the public and to gather more feedback, according to the release.

The plan was developed using traffic accident data and feedback from local road users to identify the biggest problem areas throughout the county.

“The plan promotes safer, healthier and more equitable transportation options,” Lorain County Public Health Commissioner Mark Adams said in the release. “The Safe System Approach is a framework that aims to completely eliminate road traffic deaths and serious injuries for all road users by 2040.”

Lorain County Public Health works closely with local governments, schools and communities to promote pedestrian and bicycle safety, safe routes to school and provide car seats to eligible residents.

“Some people love to start their County Fair visit at the Lorain County Public Health tent to kick off the ‘Walk for Water,'” Adams said. β€œIt’s a mini scavenger hunt that rewards walkers with an ice-cold water bottle.

“We’ve been doing it for many years and fairgoers look forward to participating.”

The 178th Lorain County Fair will take place at 23000 Fairgrounds Road in Wellington.
