Former leader of Walz battalion publishes scathing message aimed at governor’s military career: report

The battalion commander for Minnesota Governor Tim Walz The former Minnesota Army National Guard unit issued a scathing message to Vice President Kamala Harris amid accusations of “stolen valor,” according to media reports.

“I have no regrets that Tim Walz retired early from the Minnesota National Guard, did not complete the Sergeants Major Academy, violated his enlistment contract, or failed to complete any assignment as a Sergeant Major. He unwittingly got in the way of better leadership,” wrote John Kolb on Facebook, the Daily Mail reported.

Kolb served as lieutenant colonel in 1st Battalion, 125th Field Artillery from 2005 to 2007, the Minnesota National Guard shows on its website. Walz served in the same battalion until 2005, when he retired before the battalion deployed to Iraq that year.

Kolb now works as an attorney in Minnesota. Fox News Digital reached out to Kolb for confirmation of the Facebook post and further comment on Walz’s military service but did not receive a response prior to publication.

Walz has come under increasing criticism for “stolen valor,” including veterans who vilify him for saying he is a “retired Command Sergeant Major.” Walz had earned the rank of command sergeant major prior to his retirement, but his rank was reduced months after his retirement to master sergeant because he did not complete the required courses with the US Army Sergeants Major Academy.

The “retired Command Sergeant Major” rank was promoted by Harris campaign until last week, when it changed Walz’s biography to read that he “served as command sergeant major.”

Walz retired from the Minnesota Army National Guard in 2005 after 24 years of service. He then mounted a successful congressional campaign and was sworn in as a member of the United States House representing Minnesota in 2007.

Kolb continued in his social media post that he has no comment on Walz’s early retirement, as it was “his right to retire early,” but that he is fraudulently using the retired chief sergeant major rank.

“By all accounts and on the record, he was a competent gunnery battery commander/gunnery sergeant and first sergeant. I cannot say the same about his service while sitting, clothed, in the CSM (command sergeant major) chair. He did not earn the rank or successfully complete any mission as an E9,” he said.

“He did not earn the rank or successfully complete any mission as an E9,” Kolb wrote in the reported social media post. “It is an insult to the NCO that he continues to gloat about the title. I can sit in the cockpit of an airplane, that does not make me a pilot. Likewise, when the demands of service and leadership at the highest level became real, he chose a different path. “

“It’s an insult to the NCO that he continues to like the title,” Kolb continued. “I can sit in the cockpit of an airplane, that doesn’t make me a pilot. Likewise, when the demands of service and leadership at the highest level became real, he chose a different path.”

VP KAMALA HARRIS PICKING GOV. TIM WALZ AS RUNNER-UP MET WITH THE MEDIA: “SUCH A WEIRD CHOICE”

Kolb tagged retired Command Sgt. Maj. Thomas Behrends at the post, according to the Daily Mail, who replaced Walz in the battalion when he retired and hailed the veteran as a “great leader.”

“Thomas Behrends was the right leader at the right time. He sacrificed himself to answer the call, leaving his brother to family, business and farming partners to train, lead and care for soldiers. He was privileged to be called Command Sergeant Major “, he wrote.

“Like a great leader, he ran towards and not away from the guns.”

Behrends has raised the alarm about Walz’s military career since last week, when Harris first announced the Minnesota governor as her 2024 running mate.

“He has used the rank he never achieved to advance his political career,” Behrends told Fox News host Laura Ingraham last week. “I mean, he still says he’s a retired master sergeant today, and he’s not. He uses other people’s ranks to make it look like he’s a better person than he is.”

Reports of Kolb’s Facebook post have since spread across social media, including Donald Trump Jr, former President Trump’s sonwrites, “Tim Walz’s battalion chief is absolutely destroying him over his stolen valor. How long will the leftist media continue to ignore all of this?”
