IIT Madras tops the overall category again, IISc Bengaluru top university

New Delhi (India), Aug 12 (ANI): For the sixth consecutive year, IIT Madras has topped both the ‘comprehensive’ and ‘technology’ categories in the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) 2024, while IISc Bengaluru has retained the top spot in the university category .

Hindu College, Delhi, is ranked number 1 in the college category, with Miranda House second in the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) 2024 released on Monday by the Ministry of Education.

Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bengaluru has been ranked as the best university for the last 9 years. JNU and Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI), New Delhi are ranked second and third respectively in the university category.

IISc Bangalore has also been recognized as the second best institution in the ‘overall’ category.

While IIT Madras bagged the first position as the best engineering institute, IIT Delhi and IIT Bombay bagged the second and third positions respectively.

IIT-Madras has also been ranked as the best engineering college for the past nine years. In the management category, IIM-Ahmedabad, Bangalore and Calcutta are among the top five.

In its ninth edition, the ranking framework evaluates institutions on five broad parameters: teaching, learning and resources; research and professional practice, degree results; outreach; inclusiveness; and perception.

Three new categories were introduced this year, bringing the total to 16.

The higher education institutions are listed under 16 categories: overall, universities, medicine, engineering, management, law, architecture colleges, research institutions, pharmacy, dentistry, agriculture and related sectors, innovation, state universities, open universities and universities of competence.

IIM Ahmedabad (IIMA) has been ranked as the best management institute for the fifth consecutive year.

Meanwhile, AIIMS New Delhi is the best medical college in India. It has retained its position.

In the NIRF 2024 Innovation category, IIT Bombay has secured the top position. IIT Madras follows in second place, while IIT Hyderabad holds the third place.

This year, a total of 10,885 universities participated in NIRF.

The National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) is a ranking methodology adopted by the Ministry of Education to rank higher education institutions in India in 2015.

A core committee constructed the methodology for ranking institutes set up by the MHRD to identify the broad parameters for ranking various universities and institutions.

Indira Gandhi National Open University has secured the first position, followed by Netaji Subhash Open University (Kolkata) and Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Open University (Ahmedabad) in second and third positions under the open universities category (a recently added category).

AIIMS New Delhi, Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) Chandigarh, CMC Vellore and NIMHANS have retained the top positions.

In the pharmacy category, Jamia Hamdard has climbed one place from last year to secure the top spot. The second position is held by the National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research (NIPER) in Hyderabad. Birla Institute of TechnologyScience (BITS) Pilani has retained its third position. JSS College of Pharmacy, Ooty, is placed fourth.

Anna University is placed in the top position among the state public universities. It is the new category in the ninth edition. (ANI)
