STARKVILLE, Miss.—Mississippi State’s radio station is celebrating its 30th year in operation with a new name, new sound and new pulse for the Golden Triangle community.

91.1 The Junction, formerly known as World Class Radio, combines the diversity of MSU’s campus with the liveliness of The Junction on game days. The new image and branding now represent the station’s true nature – Adult Album Alternative format where the genres of alternative, blues, indie rock, pop and Americana meet.

Neil Price, the station’s general manager since October, has made great strides to improve the station’s coverage, facilities, student engagement, experiential learning and branding.

“It’s a hub where different forms of music meet with local to international news,” he said. “We’re not just music. We’re a conduit for information to the community. We’re here to support MSU and our community. It’s more than just music, it’s a public trust.”

The non-commercial station serves as a learning laboratory for students in nearly every college on campus, offering experiential or hands-on learning opportunities in radio operations and broadcasting, news and sports reporting, writing and weather forecasting.

David Garraway, associate director of the Office of Public Affairs and the University Television Center, is enthusiastic about the station’s progress and Price’s continued efforts to improve its programming and help fulfill the university’s motto of learning, research and service.

“We redeployed our resources to create a relevant news source for our community,” Garraway said. “We are making long-term strategic investments to last for decades and remain a community presence in this area for the next 30 years and beyond.”

The Junction, with a 70-mile listening radius around campus, is now home to the university’s new morning show “Music and More,” featuring news, sports, weather and extended music blocks, hosted by Price. The show runs weekdays at 7am-10am and can be found on the radio dial at 91.1 FM, online using the TuneIn radio app or at www.wmsv.msstate.edu.

Since its inception in 1994, the station has won more than 50 state and national awards.
