Bass also said that forming a strategic partnership with some of the city’s largest employers will be critical to LA’s ability to alleviate traffic congestion.

“The way it should work is to meet with the city’s major employers and talk about staggering hours, which is something that was done 40 years ago, when we had no technology, no cell phones, no personal computers,” she said. “There might be some employers that we would say, ‘Can you be remote for 17 days?'”

Bass acknowledged that essential workers will have to continue commuting to work during the time the Summer Games are in town.

“We’ve also really learned from COVID that we have essential workers, people who have to come to work. But if you narrow it down to that, it’s going to be a lot easier,” Bass added. “People will have a reference point in recent history as to how to get there.”
