The Edinburgh Festival Fringe is quite simply the biggest arts festival in the world, with thousands of shows – from music and stand-up comedy to every imaginable sub-genre of theater – in hundreds of venues of varying capacity across the Scottish capital. It was first established in 1947, when eight theater groups crashed the official Edinburgh International Festival.
